At Outer Dark and this mini-album draws a fair bit from it.
Churning out a heady mix of doom and steampunk, Spectral Darkwave impress live and they’ve captured this perfectly across Live Fire Exorcise. It’s an all-too-brief sample of their mesmerisingly heavy output, and brings back great memories of that Jager Stage set in 2021. With only brief intros between songs, they let the music do the talking (or growling).
There are plenty of backing tracks which add bags of atmosphere to the blasting tones, and the songs are a decent mix of the catchy (“Insertion 731”) and the bludgeoning (“A Toll Is Due”). The set pretty much nails what they’re about musically and only has me wishing that Bloodstock invited more bands back on consecutive years so I could see them again this August!

Definitely an album worth grabbing for fans, and for those who stream then it could be the perfect chance to check out a new band. Very well recorded, great musicianship and a well-rounded set. Now, how’s about a new studio album?
