Album Review: Houkago Grind Time – ‘Koncertos Of Kawaiiness: Stealing Jon Chang’s Ideas, A Book By Andrew Lee’

Manga-based grindcore? Well it had to happen. Houkago Grind Time chuck cute sound samples into the mix and then beat them to a bloody pulp with requisite tin can snare, and gargle vocals over the top.

As you’d expect, most of the songs are short – around 30 to 60 seconds as a guide – and brutally heavy. Simplistic, catchy riffs open things up and then the violence and descends. The longer ones actually have a bit of normal structure around them (like “Disgrace to the Corpse of Watsuki”), which wraps around the insanity to a disarmingly pleasant degree.

With numbers like “Yuro Yu-Rot” and “You Broke My Nutbladder” helping to pack the 18-strong tracklist, I’d say there’s something for all the family. But only if all the family are inbred and big brother runs around with a chainsaw and a natty taste in home-made face coverings.

Definitely an album for the more disturbed amongst you.
