[avatar =”Gary” size=”50″ align=”left” /]Formed in August 2014, Sertraline are a five piece rock/metal band from Stoke-on-Trent, UK. The band have just celebrated their first anniversary with a wee tour of the UK which brought them to Bannermans in Edinburgh – the last date of the tour where this photographer/reviewer caught them live. Their debut mini album Bury The Ghosts was released in February, a very strong and well recorded album. Check it out, you will not be disappointed. They have very different influences; Funeral For A Friend, Bring Me The Horizon, Marmozets, Asking Alexandria, Tonight Alive, Monuments and Periphery to name but a few.

Needless to say the set was the album with a few extra tracks thrown in. They started off with the first track from Bury the Ghosts, “Dead Set”, which has a fantastic heavy bass riff intro before Lizzie’s strong vocals kick in nicely. A well paced track with the chorus line of “Let it go” bound to be a crowd singalong in the future. A change of pace next with “Not Enough” which kind of reminded me of Lacuna Coil meets Eva Plays Dead, another nicely-paced track with strong vocals.

The band’s third track of the night is a Pink cover, “Get the Party Started” – a good upbeat track to get people moving. A new track next which they hope to have on their new EP in the new year, “Nyeevise”. If the live version is anything to go by then the EP will be well worth a listen. Another new one in the form of “I it the Blame” with a changing tempo throughout, again another to check out when the new EP comes out.

Back to Bury the Ghosts with the rifftastic “Set the World Alight”. Check out the official video below – a stunning track, with such strong vocals and musically the band are very talented for only being on the go for such a short space of time. A highlight of the night for me. The band have a great way with the chorus line in a lot of their tracks which, given time as mentioned earlier, will have the crowds singing along easily.

Up next we have “Mean to Me” with a beautiful guitar intro which leads into another Lacuna Coil style track – another highlight track for me which came alive on stage with Lizzie bouncing about with such a mature stage presence.

We end an all too short set with the last track from Bury the Ghosts in “All Choked up” again with the Lacuna style for me with the music and the twin mixed vocals all through the track and there we are, all over. A short but fun filled blistering setlist from a very mature sounding band who, if they keep on improving, could be capable of big things. The band are all very talented musically with a very strong female lead vocalist which is great to see in a young band. Should they come your way, go check them out and Bury the Ghosts. You will not be disappointed.
