From a quick look on social media Day Old Hate appear to be regulars at The Key Club in Leeds having ed The City Is Ours and Slaves (US) there earlier in the year, although this time around the band are headlining their hometown show with from Speaking In Shadows and others.

The first band of the evening was Lost In Winter and for a band that appear to have only formed in recent months had a good sound but they did however lack a little bit of stage presence.
Up next were The Day We Don’t with a thirty minute set which included some very catchy tunes and a few on stage jokes. These were mainly aimed at the band’s newest member, drummer James, who was told not to mess up on one of their songs that he apparently struggles to get right.

The final of the evening were the fantastic Speaking In Shadows who definitely finished off the job of warming up the crowd for Day Old Hate. The band had some very impressive energy on stage and the musical ability to back it all up. I would highly recommend checking out these guys on their winter tour which sees them back at The Key Club for their own headline gig on the 5th of December.
Finally at 9:30pm it was time for Day Old Hate to hit the stage and they did so with very impressive “Boneshaker Part II”. The set continued with several of the band’s original songs before they announced that it was time for a cover and that it would work or it wouldn’t. The song that the band had chosen to cover was Little Mix’s “Shout Out To My Ex” which definitely worked in an odd kind of way.
The next few songs included mosh pits, a wall of death and even a bit of crowd surfing from vocalist Oliver Swift. The main part of the set concluded “First Light” off the band’s EP of the same name, followed by a two song encore finishing with the epic song “Tides”.
One thing is clear – that this band ooze musical talent and are hopefully on the road to bigger things.
