Sümer / Brutai / For The Oracle / Agent – O2 Academy2 Islington, December 15th 2016

On Thursday night alternative progressive rock five-piece Sümer played the first date of their debut headline tour at Islington O2 Academy2 in their home town of London.

Brutai

Having gone down a storm at both Bloodstock Open Air and UK Tech Fest this summer, Sümer came highly recommended by my Moshville colleagues, and did not disappoint. Their unique brand of progressive / alternative rock / metal was immersive and engaging from the start, and the 250-capacity venue was alive with cheers from the crowd.

First on stage were four-piece Agent, from London / Reading. The band did a great job of warming up the crowd for an evening of progressive rock / metal, playing tracks from their recently-released album Kingdom Of Fear.

Sümer

As For The Oracle began setting up for their set it was clear that this band were going to bring something a little different to the table. Seven young lads took to the stage, including a saxophonist and trombone player! The addition of these two instruments rarely seen and heard at a rock / metal show brought interesting and enjoyable additional layers to their sound.  Although plagued with technical issues, the band battled on and played a strong set to an encouraging crowd.

Another band who had been brought to my attention were main Brutai, whose set I also really enjoyed. They played tracks from their recently-released debut album Born, as well as ending their set with two heavier tracks from their earlier EP.  There was a great mix of clean and growl vocals, together with catchy melodies and technical guitar.

Although originally scheduled for eight dates, sadly the Hull and Cornwall shows of this tour have been cancelled. Information regarding the remaining dates of the Sümer tour can be found on their official page.
