My first gig of 2022 found me heading down to Camden to The Dev. It was great to see the venue so packed for the first time since the pandemic.

First, to grace the stage was the mighty Gutlocker, a “Grumpy four-piece band from a quaint Surrey town full of alien tripods. Well-armed with gnarly riffs and posh accents”. I have been looking forward to seeing them for a long time, and it’s safe to say it was worth the wait. They had people swarming the stage before they even started playing, bringing a mixture of groovy and angry riffs as well as Craig’s vocals who were perfectly performed, full of ion, anger, and aggression. Lyrics that made it feel like Craig had torn his soul apart leaving him both naked and vulnerable to the excited crowd. Gutlocker is certainly a band to look out for as they had both myself and the audience by the short and curlies. With the new album soon to be released, it won’t be long before Gutlocker are headlining gigs up and down the country and I look forward to seeing them again.

Up next was Sewer Trench, a five-piece death-crust band from London, having never heard of these guys before I was impressed with the raw energy that they brought to the stage. Their energy often overflowed from the vocalist into the crowd of which the vocalist spent much of his time among. The sludgy yet angry riffs carried yet more raw ion. Overall, it was a great set, and the crowd seemed to have a fantastic time. It was great to finally see some live music again.
