Single Review: The Now – “Pleased”

Instrumentally this song has some cool elements. Such as the echoey guitar notes and the electronic fuzz tones throughout. Creating this cool atmosphere, it’s the kind of song I would listen to driving around at night through city lights to. Their sound reminds me of the Killers, the Fouls, and the kings of Leon, that of alternative or indie rock. The guitar notes and tones have this nostalgic feeling to them also which adds to the emotional atmosphere. The pedal effect on the guitar solo took me by surprise, I wasn’t expecting a solo with that kind of sound or style in a song like this, however, they could have done a lot more with it.

The lyrics are a little standard. I am sorry to say there was nothing in the lyrics that sparked my interest at all. Songs with this subject area don’t always grab my attention, it just seems safe and standard. To summarise it, the song is about a guy messing around with a girl hoping he doesn’t get caught by her dad. If the song is well executed and it sounds good, and the lyrics aren’t boring then I can’t complain when it comes to songs about things like this. Pearl Jam’s “Betterman” is an example of a well-done love song, so it’s just a matter of the quality of the music. The main critique is that it had zero depth, just nothing to think about after listening to and reading the lyrics. I don’t mean to come across as a music snob here, but it was too hard to ignore. I listened to this song over the course of 5 days and unfortunately, it won’t make it to my playlist. Perhaps I may spend the time visiting vulkan vegas bonus bez depozytu instead.

I think this is an okay song for ive radio listening, it isn’t incredible or ground-breaking, it’s just an okay song. It sounds too much like a pop hit for me to officially say I like it. However, the now have potential and I can see them improving over time. If they can expand on their instrumentals which are already good and create songs that spark interest instead of safe lyrics for ive listening I would certainly be up for listening to them again and reconsidering my position. As of now it just isn’t my cup of tea.
