I have been following Deadfire for a few years now and have got quite fond of their musical style. Though they play a musical style that I moved away from a long time ago. I keep getting drawn back to them for one simple reason – Deadfire are really bloody good. After playing death metal on my radio show last night for three hours solid, it’s sometimes good to get away from all the brutality and listen to some music that has equally got a message but will get you having a good time instead. This is where Aberdeen-based drunken reprobates Deadfire come in, and I was delighted when vocalist Charlie Munro sent me their latest single “Anxiety Society”.

The funny thing is though, this is not the first time that I have listened to it. I have been looking forward to seeing Deadfire in the live front and last November I got that opportunity at Glasgow’s 13th Note. They are a great live act and the fact that they got to the final of Glasgow’s Metal to the Masses a couple of years ago was clearly on show that night. It was here that they played two new songs and the first was “Anxiety Society”.
Right after their set, I approached vocalist Charlie and informed him that this is their best song that they have written as a band. They still have the old school rock feel with some grunge and stoner vibes with maybe a slight reference to Orange Goblin here and there, but it’s the catchy chorus that sets this apart from what they have done before. This sure will be a crowd pleaser and Charlie’s vocals in particular are the best they have sounded. Rich’s guitars are groovy before quietening down and building atmosphere before they break the house down during the chorus.
Tunk on drums and Boothy on bass provide a solid platform for the song to get your ass moving on that dance floor. It truly is a great heavy rock song that will surely bring new fans to Deadfire and get them playing at a town near you. Just be sure that the bar at the venue has plenty of Jack Daniels in it.

At the time of writing (but if you’re reading this then it’s out now!), it’s a shame that you can not hear it yet and have another month to wait… but it will be worth it. I guarantee it. It has certainly left a lasting impression on me and I find myself shouting “Hey” while walking through my house. You will understand what I mean when you get to hear the single. Well played you drunken reprobates and we shall have an interview soon.
“Anxiety Society” is out now so you can check it out below!
